The sometimes incoherent thoughts and musings of a stay-at-home-mom...married to a "local" trucker...trying to raise two kiddos...with one on the spectrum. Normal? What's that?!

Gosh…it has been so crazy here! I feel like I never get a break. I finally had the ARD meeting with Skye’s teachers and staff. I now have a very good visual of how things are doing for her day to day in school. According to her Pre-K teacher, Skye is progressing faster than her peers. She is already trying to write her name on her paper each morning. She is coloring inside of the lines and trying different colors. I also found out that she went into a protective phase as well. One of the boys in her class was taking crayons away from a friend of hers and Skye told him that he was not supposed to do that she hit him. Of course, timeout was implemented and she became very upset, but she also showed that she could be protective. This is new. So on an academic level, she is doing very well, but commuication and socialization are less frequent. She gets along with everyone and she participates, but the skills are not showing better. If that makes sense.
So, we have decided to try some new things with her. Two things…riding the bus to school and a new “school”. Ugh! New means change and Skye does not like change!
I already have a problem with getting Skye to her Pre-K class. If I have to walk her, she will not go with the teacher and sit with her class. So, her speech pathologist has been taking her to class and it has been working okay. The trick with riding the bus to school would be better for her they think because she will ride the bus with two other kids and she will go sit with Miss Mindy (her PPCD teacher) and eat breakfast and then they will take her to Pre-K. Miss Mindy even made her a social story about riding the bus to school. We will see.
The school has also decided to pay for ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy at a center. They think that since she is only in school for three hours a day that she will benefit from the social and communication skills that she can get from ABA therapy. The school district has a contract with Giggles Therapy and they want Skye to attend right after she gets out of school at 11am. This place is right around the corner from where we live so after Buddy got off work last Friday, the four of us went and checked it out. Skye already knows a couple of the teachers because she has seen them up at her school, so that is a plus. We were there for about two hours looking at what they do and talking. Skye got to have a snack and color with a few of the other kids, plus Tanner was there too. She actually seemed to enjoy it, but did get upset when Buddy and I disappeared to another room. It took her a bit longer to calm down because she knew we were still there. But I think she will do okay. So, instead of her riding home on the bus, the bus will take her to Giggles and drop her off. I will pick her up after I get Tanner from school. This structured environment will take up most of her days and I think ultimately, she will be better for it.
We “saw” the bus this morning and it did not go well. She broke into tears and would not get on the bus!!
It was not her usual bus driver or aide either, so that was a factor too. So, the bus left and I took her back inside the house to watch cartoons and get Tanner ready. Skye had no problem going with Ms. Maurie this morning, so her day started out good. Today is her first day at Gigglles and I am sitting on pins and needles wondering how it is going. But I have to tell myself that she needs this. I pick her up at 4pm. Gosh, what am I gonna do for the next three hours?? ROTF!!!!

Today is election day in this kick butt country of ours. Have you voted today?? My vote goes to McCain and Palin and its a straight Republican ticket for me this year. The polls are still open and will be open well into the evening, so its hard to actually say who is leading. The media projects Obama to win…and if that’s the case, I just hope that as president of our country, he can and will do every single thing that his campaign was out there presenting us. As it stands if he is elected president, he may soon be my Commander-in-Chief as well.
Yep, if you followed that right, I may be getting back in the military. I went and talked to a recruiter at my old unit yesterday for about an hour. It looks like it will be a piece of cake to re-enlist…as long as I pass my physical at MEPS.
First I have a bit of weight to lose. I will be going in for periodic weigh-ins. Buddy is not happy with me. He wants me to go full time active duty if I am going to pursue this. I haven’t completely ruled that out either. We will see.
I got a call from the diagnostician at school today and we have an ARD meeting finally scheduled for Skye.
I have been having issues since the beginning of school that I am finally going to get addressed and get some details on. That is all I want…details, especially since teachers have changed. I also want to know if a PECS system is being implemented in Skye’s classroom and how she is handling going to the potty. I know here at the house, she has to have me right there. Ugh! Okay, I am off to go straighten up the house. I also mentioned the fact that no in-home training has been taking place, so I expect them to start getting that rolling quickly. As of now, the IEP is in default! LOL!
