Welcome to Leaving Port...A Titanic Fansite. On the 10th of April 1912, the RMS Titanic departed Southampton on her maiden voyage and what was to be Captain E.J. Smith's last before he retired. Four days into her journey, she struck an iceberg and within two hours and forty minutes, she lay at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. As a young girl, I had always heard about the big ship that sank. But it wasn't until I got older and started reading more about this wonderous beauty of the sea, that my fascination grew. But the RMS Titanic was more than just a big ship that sank. She was called the 'Ship of Dreams' and is still considered to be the worst maritime disaster in history. The confidence of mankind was shaken the night of April 14, 1912. An era that was infactuated with technological advancement and wealth...was rocked to it's core by the sinking of a great liner, that was thought by many, to be...unsinkable.
On the 19th of December 1997, James Cameron's movie TITANIC was launched in theaters. The story of Jack and Rose went straight to the heart of movie-goers across the country making it an all time favorite. The RMS Titanic has always been my favorite ocean liner to sail the seas and now this movie has become a favorite as well.
The 15th of April is a day to remember those lost aboard the RMS Titanic. It is also a day of celebration for me, as my son was born on this day as well. How ironic that my little boy, who is just as fascinated by this ship as me, was born on the anniversary of her sinking? This site is my little tribute to my favorite ship and movie. I hope you enjoy your visit.
